Los Angeles — The rise of Lucca Vieira has been swift, but far from accidental. At just 23 years old, the Brazilian-American director is set to release his debut feature film, The Midway Point, across all English-speaking territories on May 19, with distribution by Level 33 Entertainment.
Written at 17 and directed at 20, the coming-of-age drama signals the arrival of a bold new voice in independent cinema — one that blends deeply personal storytelling with a polished, industry-level production approach.

The Midway Point follows a neurodivergent teenager navigating a complicated romantic relationship with a classmate who shares similar struggles. The story draws heavily from Vieira’s own life, as he uses his experience on the autism spectrum to craft a nuanced psychological portrait of alienation and the search for human connection.
Despite his age, Vieira assembled an accomplished cast, including Thora Birch, Julie Benz, Wes Studi, Catharine Daddario, and Sean Ryan Fox.

Vieira’s career began early. At 16, his documentary Parkland: Stories from the Survivors earned attention on the festival circuit. He followed it with the horror short Silhouette, which screened at more than eight festivals across North America. His work is marked by its focus on isolated characters and psychological depth, with clear influences from filmmakers like Stanley Kubrick and David Cronenberg.
“I want to tell stories about characters who feel alienated from the world around them,” Vieira says, as he gains recognition as a filmmaker to watch among Generation Z.
Beyond the May release of The Midway Point, Vieira is already developing his second feature, Shift — a body horror project described as a potential “new cult classic.” Its proof-of-concept short recently completed a successful festival run, including screenings at the Beverly Hills Film Festival and the Dallas International Film Festival in April 2026.
As he transitions from a self-taught teenage creator to an emerging professional force, Vieira’s distinctive perspective — rooted in emotional authenticity and neurodiversity — continues to set him apart in today’s crowded cinematic landscape.
